Welcome to Mitchelton Youth Club

Here is our 2020 Curriculum, where you are sure to find a suitable class to participate in!

The Mitchelton Youth Club (MYC) has been a member of the community for over 60 years.

We are a not-for- profit community organisation run by a committee of volunteers. The MYC Annual General Meeting is held in September each year.

All senior coaches employed by the Club are fully accredited and nationally registered members of their respective sporting organisations. We also have an on-going staff training scheme in place to ensure that the Club’s future programming needs are met. Coaches are required to upgrade their qualifications annually.

MYC is one of the few clubs in the State to offer a curriculum which enables a child to start at Kindergym and progress to high levels in numerous sports. We are also in the position to offer inter-related sports. For example, your child may combine Gymnastics with Tumbling or Trampoline Sports.

Many of the benefits of gymnastics are not related to learning gymnastics skills, but more important developmental areas that will help your child become a better student and young adult. Mitchelton Youth Club is not solely about creating gymnasts. The details below are a small sampling of the actual benefits of gymnastics.

Self Confidence: Through the challenge of learning skill, students gain confidence with each step. Doing the skills on the beams and bars helps them gain confidence in their own abilities.

Coordination: Gymnastics instruction helps develop better coordination, body movement and fine motor skill development.

Social Skills: Especially for the younger ones, gymnastics gives the little ones a weekly chance to learn about social skills like listening and following directions, taking turns, being a quiet, respecting others and much more.

Determination: Gymnastics builds determination. Some gymnastics skills are hard to master so the children learn determination in continuing to work hard even when skills are tough.

Fitness: In this world of obese children, fitness is critical to the current and future health of our children. Gymnastics is full of activities that will make your child more fit and help keep them healthy.

Learning to perform in front of people: Gymnastics has students perform their skills in front of other students which helps teach “performance” and make performing in front of others easier.

Discipline: A gymnastics class is a controlled environment that has rules that are very important. The more discipline the children get today the better off they will be.

Hard Work Ethic – Overcoming Fears – Strength Development – Flexibility

You have done a great job as a parent choosing gymnastics for your children. Gymnastics benefits all athletes and every child regardless of talent and ability. Your child will be a much more mature, well prepared young adult because of their involvement in gymnastics. Gymnastics teaches more than forward rolls!
